Building Your Career at SoftBank

We help you achieve your aspirations and corporate goals.

To help employees build their career, SoftBank has a variety of career development assistance programs and training courses in place. Employees should be able to develop their career on their own by defining their career goals and personal visions, understanding what experience, knowledge, and skills are needed to achieve them, and making their own choices. We assist in this process, with a view to fostering employees with diverse personalities.

Overview of Career Development Programs

Career Dock

SoftBank offers a range of measures that help employees take the first step forward for their future career, such as by encouraging self-development and expanding their horizons. Employees are periodically given an opportunity to assess their own capabilities and skills through expert lectures and seminars, group training, and other programs.

Self-Statement System

Once a year, employees submit a statement that describes their fit to the current workplace and the work they want to do, followed by interviews with their supervisors. The system is designed to allocate and assign employees in light of their aptitudes and future career goals.

Free Agent (Open Internal Recruitment) System

Any employees willing to enhance their career can take on the challenge of doing so. This system allows such employees to apply for and, if accepted, be transferred to the departments or Group companies they want to work for. When submitting applications, employees do not need to obtain approval from their present supervisors. Since the free agent system was introduced in fiscal 2015, more than 400 employees have been transferred to departments or Group companies of their choosing.

Job Posting (Open Internal Recruitment) System

A team launching a new business or company can openly recruit its members from within SoftBank under this system, which is designed to provide employees with two things: the opportunity to grow and achieve self-realization; and the environment in which anyone can take on a challenge. When submitting applications, employees do not need to obtain approval from their present supervisors. Since the introduction of the job posting system in fiscal 2015, more than 400 employees have been transferred to departments of their choosing.

Qualification Acquisition Support

By paying examination fees and providing financial incentives, SoftBank encourages employees who endeavor to acquire qualifications with the aim of developing themselves and enhancing their skills. The support applies to around 190 qualifications in the business, technology, and IT fields.

Permission to Work a Second Job

Employees can work a second job if permitted to do so by the company. The aims are twofold. One is to encourage them to grow through various experiences. The other is to accelerate innovations by enabling them to combine the experience and expertise gained inside the company with the knowledge obtained outside the company.
